Nine months ago I join Longevity Athletics. At the time I didn’t have much motivation, energy or any fitness related goals. I’m in my early 30’s, married with 4 kids under the age of 6, and am on the road more than half the month as an airline pilot.   Needless to say, I have a lot of distractions in my life and plenty of opportunities to focus on other tasks besides myself.  Unfortunately for the past 8 years I put concern for my physical health aside, until I met Aaron and decided to make my health a priority.  In the first 3 months working with Aaron, I lost 35 pounds and 6 inches off my waist.  I also saw measurable increases in strength and endurance, not to mention more energy during the day to help me keep up with the demands of family and work.

Before coming to L.A., I was a little over weight & not in the best of shape. I got to a point where I said enough is enough. When I came to L.A., Aaron asked me what my goals were- that was easy. To lose weight & learn to eat a healthy lifestyle. I had a food log that I wrote in for every meal. He also provided with a list of foods that I could eat-this was my food bible.

I’ve lost over 30lbs, I’m in the best shape of my life and I live a much healthier lifestyle. I owe this all to L.A.  L.A. will be the only gym that I will ever go to because of the knowledge that Aaron provides to his clients & not to mention his patience. He has taught me so much. I’ve been working out at L.A. 3 days a week for the past 15 months & the entire 15 months have been fantastic!!! I could not have asked for a better trainer!!!!

“Not Your Average Gym!”

        I was introduced to Longevity Athletics 5 months ago by a good friend who has been a member here for several years. My friend’s improvement in her overall health and fitness was so noticeable that I asked her about her transformation. She happily referred me to Longevity Athletics and Owner/Trainer, Aaron Gilbert. 

       From the first interview, I could see that Aaron was not your average trainer! He wasn’t going to just show me some equipment and leave me to myself. He spent time genuinely getting to know me, evaluating my health history and hearing my goals and concerns. A big concern for me was that I had never enjoyed exercise; feeling poorly during and after any exertion on my body was typical for me. Some evaluations were done to determine my fitness condition. I was overweight, de-conditioned, eating poorly, fatigued, and very discouraged. Personal Training was just what I would need. Healthy nutrition would also work in conjunction for the best outcome. Aaron provided me with a customized eating plan and he is always available for nutritional guidance.

       As a result of my Personal Training sessions and Nutrition Plan so far, I have lost 15 pounds, improved my core strength, changed my eating habits, and feel less fatigued.  For the first time ever, I feel great during and after my training sessions. My body is getting stronger and my mental attitude is changing from discouragement to encouragement!  Aaron’s emphasis on individuality and what I need for strength and conditioning is crucial for my success. Training sessions are geared to challenge me, but always in a safe manner with heart rate monitoring and experienced observation. I cannot imagine working on achieving health and fitness any other way than through such personalized care. I am truly blessed to have Aaron whose knowledge, experience, and encouragement are helping me change my lifestyle for the better! “If you are looking to transform yourself, Longevity Athletics is where you need to go.””

When I couldn’t put on a tee shirt or deodorant without screaming in agony, I knew I had a problem.  That’s when I paid a visit to our family doctor, who took a whopping 30 seconds to diagnose my problem.  He grabbed my left wrist gently, and then with his other hand, raised my elbow until it was parallel with my shoulder.  The girlish, blood curdling scream that followed, seemed to confirm his suspicions.  When I was done embarrassing myself, the doctor informed me that I had impinged my rotator cuff and would need to go to physical therapy if I wanted it to heal correctly. The alternative, of course, was to walk around shirtless and reeking of B.O. 

Having little choice, I walked next door to Petersen Physical Therapy and signed up.

Peterson was where I met Aaron Gilbert of Longevity Athletics.  Jeff, Aaron, and Sean set me up with a program designed to help repair the damage and strengthen my shoulder so I wouldn’t injure it again. Aaron explained to me what he was doing and why he was doing it.  When I stared blankly at him, he would then patiently dumb it down about 3 levels so I could understand what he was saying.  He explained how the exercises I was doing at the Gym with my trainer were probably what caused my injury, and showed me what I was doing wrong.  Aaron asked me if I wanted to see a better way to train, when I said yes, he said the first 3 sessions were free.  I like free, so I drove over to his place to see what, if anything, was so different. 

As it turned out, Aaron does thing completely different from my old trainer.  Aaron spends an hour and fifteen minutes with his clients per session, my old trainer only spent 30 minutes.  The 30 minutes was spent completely on lifting weights, no cardio or anything else.  Aaron Gilbert’s sessions include, weight lifting, but you also get band resistance, body weight exercises, interval training, cardio, stretching, foam rolling, and diet coaching.  My old trainer did not do any of the other stuff and his version of diet coaching was “Eat more Protein!”

 

Another thing I like about Aaron’s style of training is how it’s not the same old boring crap over and over again.  He is always changing what his clients are doing in order to confuse their bodies and keep the training challenging.   Instead of 4 sets of 10-12 reps over and over, ad nauseum, we are flipping giant tractor tires, then hitting them with sledgehammers, then dragging them down the street with cables.  When we are pumping iron, we are constantly changing the routine with different weights and intervals.  Most importantly, Aaron goes over every exercise before the workout so you know how to DO IT CORRECTLY!! 

The best thing for me about Longevity Athletics is Aaron’s diet coaching.  Eating right is the area that brings me the most grief.  I was really surprised how in depth he gets.  Aaron set me up with and eating plan, recipes, and a food log to keep track of what I eat, which was a real eye opener for me.  He also took the time to explain the science behind the plan in a way I could understand.  Most importantly he provides encouragement and accountability, which I seem to need on a regular basis.
